The Poor Cod, Trisopterus minutus, is a small member of the cod family which may be recognized by its protruding upper jaw, quite long chin barbel and dark brown, almost copper coloured back. Common inshore all around the UK, it is caught commercially as by-catch but due to its size, is only used to produce fish-meal. It is widely predated by larger species and cetaceans.
