Found all around the UK, the Long-clawed Squat Lobster, Munida rugosa, is aptly named. Its unfolded body length can be up to 10cms but with the length of its claws, it can be double this. In my experience, it prefers silty areas where it lives under boulders or in a hole it excavates in soft ground. Reddish-brown to almost orange, the tips of its claws are white. It is caught as by-catch and I have seen it for sale on the fish counter of a supermarket.
