Horse Mussel - Modiolus modiolus
A very large shellfish growing up to more than 20cms in length, the Horse Mussel, Modiolus modiolus, is widespread around British coasts but found more frequently in the north. It can be seen singly usually in rough ground but also in huge beds. It can be found on the lower shore and down to depths approaching 300m.
