Spiny Starfish - Marthasterias glacialis
Growing to about 75cms across, the Spiny Starfish, Marthasterias glacialis, is quite a large animal. It seems to be more common on southern coasts but is found also on the west and occasionally in the North Sea. It has a very spiky upper surface and ranges from a pale blue-grey to light tan colour. It also has purple tips to its arms.
