The Butterfly Blenny, Blennius ocellaris, is a rarely seen fish in British waters. It is occasionally seen on southern and western coasts but more recently has been found in Western Scotland. It has a large dorsal fin and small head tentacles and may be confused with Tompot and Yarrell's Blennies. Where they live in fairly open areas they will occupy empty shells or even old cans where they will also lay their eggs.
