The delicate Peacock Worm, or Sabella penicillus, lives in a tube it has constructed from mud and mucous. They are up to 25cms long and project a fan of feathery tentacles to trap minute organisms from the plankton. They retract instantly if disturbed. More common on western shores than the east.
